A series of 4th related events have, thankfully, given me the excuse to avoid the office for the last 2 days.
Yesterday I had to work the "official" celebration which was all diplomatic and choreographed and ceremoniously played out. And it was work - babysitting people who think they're a whole lot more important than they are. But at least the munchies were tasty. And although the crowd was mainly snooty blowhards, they knew when to get the hell out. The event was scheduled for 2 hours and at 2 hours and 15 minutes there was nobody left but the caterers.
Today was the celebration for the proletariat - burgers and dogs and pie-in-the-face raffles. Unfortunately, the weather was backwards. We had a beautiful sunny day yesterday and today was dreary and freakin frigid. It was a lot more enjoyable though, even if your burger was cold by the time you sat down to eat it.

As a Southerner, I fell compelled to point out it's "y'all". It's a contraction of you and all. The apostrophe replaces the missing letters.
You might have to pumped full of fried chicken, cornbread, pecan pie, and iced tea until you get it right.
My work here is done.
